Its that time of the year when everyone has got something nice to say about the direction they would like their lives to take. Do you have your list already?
This year, and really going forward, I'll just stick to one thing: not embarrassing myself! Now, a list of resolutions would have been nice. I would sound like a thoughtful person who has carefully considered his options and decided on the course that his life would take.
Trust me, there are quite a number of things I would like to do this year. Get a promotion, a pay hike, enroll for Masters, study theology, edit an anthology of poems, get married and maybe have twins! The list is endless, and I guess, so is yours.
About a month ago, my boss said something that got me thinking. Christmas was around the corner, some of us were about to go home for the holidays, others were expecting relatives and in-laws, and most guys were broke.
Now, instead of talking figures, boss had taken one minute to give us a lesson on life. She hoped we had prepared in advance for the holidays as it is always demanding. "I know your people are coming to visit, and some of you are going home," she said. "Please do not embarrass yourselves!"
Of all the things I have heard bosses say, this here, connected with me intimately. Have you ever reflected on your life and felt that there are things you could have done better? Promises you could have kept? Projects you could have started? Kind words you could have said?
2016 is here. We have been given yet another chance. It is up-to us now what we would like to see done this year. I hope we'll choose to be better people this year. I hope we'll come through this year for those who look up to us. I hope we'll put a smile on someone's face, make someone laugh, whatever! Most importantly though, I hope we will not embarrass ourselves in 2016!
So, here is to us for choosing to be better!
A Happy and Prosperous 2016 to you! Godspeed folks!
